Wayne Horvitz and Robin Holcomb: Echos of Casa Console (Premier) in Poschiavo, Switzerland
Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz having been making music together for over 40 years.Holcomb has created a singular body of work that contains the classical music she studied as a child, the Javanese Gamelan music she studied at conservatory, the Appalachian and American folk music she encountered while being a farmer in the hills of North Carolina, and the free jazz of the 60s and 70s that she found herself immersed in while living in New York City in the 80s.
Horvitz first played piano after hearing the great blues pianist Otis Spann, and has a similar affinity for the monumental free jazz of Cecil Taylor, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sun Ra etc. At the same time his music is often reminiscent of Bela Bartok, with an American heart.
