I teach piano, composition, and improvisation privately from my home studio in Seattle either in person, or by zoom.
Most of my students fall into 1 of 2 categories.
- Younger students (middle school and high school) who have a strong piano background, often classical, who want to learn jazz and other idiomatic forms that involve improvisation. Typically this is concurrent with their activities in school jazz band and/or off campus ensembles or bands.
- Adult students, with some music background, who want to improve their piano skills, usually with a focus on playing various styles of American music – with an emphasis on understanding chords, scales, rhythm, and stylistic approaches to jazz, blues, country, folk, rock and so forth.
I also teach composition, arranging, and approaches to contemporary improvisation practices that are in line with my own music.
Lessons are 50 minutes and I prefer to teach weekly if possible.
For very advanced students who are interested in my approach and/or my own music I am
happy to do one off lessons.
Please contact me for details.
